Only 3 sleeps to go until…
12 days in Cambodia
4 days in Vietnam
200km of cycling
60 km of trekking
3 days of building a home for a family of seven
14 students
and one epic adventure.
It’s hard to believe that a simple idea that began with two friends in November 2011 is about to take 17 amazing people to a country of horrific history yet a promising future. On Tuesday morning I’ll board a plane to Cambodia – a place of a different language, new people and unusual food. A place I’ve never stepped foot in but always remained a mystery in my mind thanks to two years of Indochina study in my senior History classes.
I am so excited for the adventure we’re about to embark on, a physical, mental and emotional challenge which will see us cycling through the countryside of Battam Bang, cycling around the temple ruins of Angkor Wat at sunrise, trekking through Cambodian jungle for over-night stays at monasteries and village homes, and a gruelling few days building a home for a Cambodian family of 7, the poorest family in Sotnikum District. I know there will be plenty of blood, sweat and tears over the next two weeks but I can’t wait to challenge myself to reach new boundaries and beyond.
This afternoon I stood on a sharp piece of glass that I quickly yanked out of my foot, but not quick enough to stop the deep cut it had inflicted or the stream of blood that flowed soon after. I know I’m going to being feeling much more pain over the next two weeks than any piece of glass can make, but I’m not going to let that stop me! I’m nervous about my limits but determined to push myself up to and beyond these limits every day of our journey.
I look forward to sharing our adventure with you… you can stay updated via this specific link on my site. I know I can’t fit you all in my suitcase, but I’m looking forward to taking you along for the ride!
