I’m heading to Brazil in 6 days! Head to my WYC’12 Brazil page to find out why and follow my journey!
This year, between 4th – 13th June, I will be representing Australia at the World Youth Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Follow my blog as I post updates from the congress, and also about my adventures in Chile and Brazil before and after the congress.
Joining 349 other international delegates and 100 Brazilian delegates (between the ages of 18-30), we will spend the 9 day congress exploring, debating and solving the issues of the key themes of the Rio+20 Conference to be held 20th – 22nd June. The conference focuses on two themes; (a) a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication; and (b) theinstitutional framework for sustainable development.
We will be networking, learning from and sharing with delegates representing over 100 countries from around the world, whilst also experiencing Brazilian culture and language as we step foot in an emerging country preparing for the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics.
The Rio+20 conference will be bringing in an overwhelming 50,000 people from all over the world and will be a good test to see how Brazil will cope with their upcoming major sporting events.
A lot of my past work, studies and interests have involved poverty eradication, but not particularly environmental sustainability, so I look forward to learning a lot about a green economy whilst at the congress.
